The restoration and renovation of a Grade 2 listed manor house. Set in the heart of the Sussex countryside, the owners unsurprisingly fell in love with this ancient property. The existing facilities were not only extremely dated but also hugely inefficient. Nutshell’s brief was to maintain the historic integrity of the building but to combine it with uber-efficient standards of heating and insulation. To this end, a combination of photo-voltaics and ground source heat pumps provide a constant and practical environmental solution. Specialist re-roofing in the traditional Horsham slate meant the perfect opportunity to super-insulate the roof space. A new green oak kitchen designed and built as a sympathetic extension. The grounds were land-drained and comprehensively landscaped.
